Richard Long: Background
I began playing guitar at age 14 and was inspired by the music I was listening to at the time, hearing guitar solos by bands like Metallica among others really sparked my interest in not only the guitar but music in general. I have always been very driven and competitive so when I began learning I played every spare moment I had, after a couple of years I had developed a lot of technical skill but wanted to learn more about music and different styles. I went to college to better my musical Knowledge and I completed a BTEC National diploma over the two years i was there (it was also where i completed my music grades).Whilst at college I taught a couple of 15 year olds privately on a regular basis and it really got me thinking about a career as a teacher.
I decided to carry on learning by going to University as I was still as passionate about music as I was when I picked up a guitar. I Began Studying at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music in 2007. I finished my second year and foundation degree in june 2009 and I'm currently on the third and final BA degree year. Whilst Studying on the course I have really developed myself as a musician. I have worked on areas such as Music Theory from grade 3-8, Ear Training and general instrument specific development from Technique to Styles so I can offer a wide range of variety to suit your needs. I'm very passionate about music and about teaching what I've learnt to others to help them reach their full potential (in the most relaxed and fun way possible!). So don't hesitate to call me or email me for any further information or questions you might have.
Brighton Guitar Lessons: Work Experience
I believe that everybody who plays and listen's to music does it in there own way, and it is very important to always have that because it makes each musician different. I can cater for individual learning needs and my experince studying music has given me a strong understanding of successful teaching methods. I feel that students should be able to learn whatever they choose to achieve their own specific musical goals, so I'm happy to teach subjects that are relevant to each student.
I didn't exactly learn in the most conventional way but it all falls into place if you keep practicing. I had my first taste of teaching whilst studying back at college as I mentioned earlier, but recently I spent a two week placement back at the same college on work experience as part of University. I assisted and took some lessons on my own to groups of guitarist's which was quite nerve-racking but a really enjoyable and beneficial experience.
